My uncle’s wife is from China, and to help with assimilating her into our family get togethers, I thought learning Chinese might be a unique way to make her feel accepted.I have listened to people speaking Chinese and it sounded hard to speak, but I had NO IDEA that it was THIS difficult. Oh, my gosh. I tried renting CDs from the library, a kid’s game on my computer, and other books (a couple from the library). All these things made it seem like learning Chinese was like learning brain surgery in a foreign language. I almost quit.
Then my friend recommended I try reading Hacking Chinese by Eva Dovc. I am so glad that she did. It is a fairly short book and easy to read. It gives great advice on how to “hack” the Chinese language. She gives you reference material to help learn the language further.
Highly recommended reading for those that simply can’t wrap their heads around Mandarin Chinese. You’ll be well on your way soon after reading!
