Flying for First Timers Everyone Guide to Airline Travel Lynnette Hartwig eBook Reviews

I'm not a first time flyer, but I don't fly often & get nervous at the thought of it. Family members keep telling my hubby & me that we need to start flying to visit them instead of taking 2 days driving. I know they're right, but with all the security & rules about what you can take & can't take & how much you can take,& luggage size/weight limits..it all just makes me nervous. "Flying for First Timers Everyone's Guide to Airline Travel" by Lynnette Hartwig, has helped alleviate some of my fears. At least I know what to expect, how to pack, and not to buy flight insurance. Also, the author suggests that just about everyone should wear support socks & take an aspirin or ibuprofen at the start of a flight. She explains that even the most athletic person can develop a blood clot. I'll be passing this information on to my family members who travel for business.

Many credit cards have travel insurance & travel life insurance. The author has a lot of information explaining what might & might not be covered...and how to collect on any travel insurance you might purchase. (She has lots of tips on travel insurance) One tip, from a lawyer, suggests that you add to your will, and/or tell your relatives that if you die while traveling as a ticketed passenger, to file a claim for travel accident insurance with the credit card company used to buy the ticket. Some credit cards have $250,000 travel life insurance.

This book is chock-full of tips & advice from buying tickets, spelling accurately, choosing a seat, to eleven things to know about flying.

Lynette Hartwig wrote this book based on wisdom she's collected from hundreds of trips. Information gleaned from this book will reduce hassles & maybe save you some money too. It's a quick read, but every chapter is full of advice & tips. I found it very useful & will recommend it to family & friends.

Read "Flying for First Timers Everyone's Guide to Airline Travel" before you book your next flight...and don't forget to wear support socks.

10 years ago I had never flown before. Last year I spent 10 weeks in Europe, and flew over 130,000 miles there and all across the US on US & foreign airlines.

This book contains the majority of tips, quick tips and things I've learned over my years of flying. Only a few things did I find missed. It is a quick and easy read. In a few places I felt like we went a little bit hard into opinion about disliked things, and some places there were some idioms or adjectives I've never heard of. That being said, it was an accurate, useful and trustworthy read. I could recommend this for anyone who plans to fly.

There are only seven tips I would suggest that could be added in for additional versions, or I missed them

When you approach the security area, there are three stages Stage 1 show your identity and boarding pass. Stage 2 strip down, and, well, take off anything metal, empty pockets, take laptop and liquids out of bag and take off shoes and belt. Place all on belt and walk through detectors only when instructed. Stage 3 extra checks if you left something in your bag you shouldn't have, or if they saw something on you that didn't look right, extra body check.

The importance of the baggage claim ticket placed on the back of a paper ticket or on a paper when checking a bag. When you have to make a flight change due to a missed connection, having this can be critical to making it to another flight quickly and your bag found & rerouted quickly. It is also a fast way to file your "lost bag" claim if you arrive without a bag. It's the first thing that a counter agent asks for when you need to find or change your bag's routing.

The importance of getting some cash when you land in a foreign airport. I have visited many places that are "cash only" in Germany & Belgium. Surprising but true. Some machines only accept debit cards. Sometimes foreign ATM's aren't always taking american cards "at the moment". So keep more cash on hand than you might in the US. Sometimes if taking a train out of a main airport the ticket machine at the airport takes cards, but most other machines do not take Visa or MC-- only local cards or cash.

The importance of making sure you have an international data plan on your phone if you have a smart phone, or to make sure your phone works at all. If you don't pay attention to this you could generate $1,000's in bills, or have no service at all.

The importance of writing down or having the contact numbers of airline, cards and mobile phone company with their "non toll free" number. Toll free numbers often don't work in foreign countries, or are different or require an additional digit, etc.

If you are taking a flight that has a connection with a foreign carrier, for example, from a large European city to a smaller one, the baggage weight limit may be different. Your bag may be checked in all the way from the US to your arrival city, but on departure you may have a lower limit. Don't push the limits.

When a flight is cancelled or delayed due to weather, or any reason not technical or hardware related, even if you buy the ticket from the airline directly, they won't pay for your hotel room or food. And if you do get approved for a room make SURE you have a voucher before you head to the hotel. They most likely won't be able to look you up or find that you are approved without the claim code.

The author clearly has great knowledge of the travel industry and flying. I found this a useful quick read, in depth enough to be worth the price but short enough not to be boring. Recommended for anyone who is flying for the first time or flying internationally for the first time.

By a lot of hard hours and days and years of time spent reviewing, I found myself in the top 10 reviewers on . This wasn't a goal or self promotion, but by nose-down focused reviewing. I occasionally get contacted by manufacturers or sellers who appreciate my way of reviewing and ask if I'll consider reviewing a product for them, with no obligation or cost. This is one of those products. I assure you that I review what I want, when I want, how I want, in order to share what I feel is the most accurate useful information.
Good advice! Especially for a non flyer.
I'm not a first-time flyer but I did get some valuable tips from this book.
I had not traveled much when I purchased this book. I learned quite a bit that was helpful to me when I took my first trip. Any first-time fliers will find this book helpful. Buy it!
The only real problem with Flying for First Timers is the title. Although I have been taking airplanes an average of once or twice a year for the past forty tears, I still found many actionable tips that would have saved me time, money or energy if I had known them earlier. Even at $6.25 (the cost of the paperback) this book would be worthwhile. If you ever plan go somewhere by plane, you owe it to yourself to read this book from cover to cover.
這本書最顯著的缺點是書名,不管你是第一次還是第二十次,連我四十年以來平均一年坐一兩次飛機還是有用,幾乎每一頁都有寶貴的旅遊訊息,平裝價$6.25絕對『值回票價』!
Before heading out on my last flight, I read this book cover to cover. I'm not sure how much new information I acquired, but the book certainly reminded me of many things that I had forgotten about. One aspect of Lynnette's writings that I really appreciate is that everything is covered in detail in a highly organized fashion. The timetable for getting set for the big day, is an example of this. It puts the tasks into a nice framework. I never buy trip insurance and this section of the book reinforced why I make that choice. I like books that are quick and easy to read and full of invaluable information, this is one of them.
